Twenty-seven-year-old Leilani Drew is a Maui real estate agent and amateur detective whose childhood obsession with Nancy Drew began after her mother died in a car accident sixteen years ago - a loss that fractured her family.

When her father, a well-known architect, disappears without a trace, Leilani launches her own investigation while older brother Kai, a Maui police detective, runs an official one going nowhere. Rejected from the police academy over a congenital inner ear condition, Leilani self medicates her grief with too much alcohol. Now she must draw on the sleuthing skills from her childhood hero and enlist the help of younger sister, Keke - a sharp-minded forensic engineering grad student - to crack the case.

While renovating a vacation condo at Turtle Cove Resort, Leilani learns of a fabled century-old treasure buried by a wealthy Chinese merchant before his exile to a remote leper colony in the early 1900s. Then a man with a distinctive turtle tattoo turns up floating in the cove, impaled by a spear. Could the old mystery and the new murder be connected?

The stakes rise when the trail of clues leads to the ruthless Palaoa gang and a criminal mastermind known only as Mr. A. With her life threatened, Leilani must navigate Kai's disapproval, a resort full of residents with secrets to kill for, and her own rising self-doubt to stay one step ahead.
